At the end of Key Stage 2 children are judged to be either working at the expected standard towards it or at greater depth.

At New Pastures Primary School, we aim for all children to achieve their personal best every year.

Early Years Foundation Stage

At the end of Foundation Stage, the children are assessed using the early learning goals in Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage.

In 2022, out of 35 Reception pupils, 66% achieved a Good Level of Development. This was slightly above the national average. In 2023 the figure was 63% which was slightly below the national average.

Year One – Phonics Screening Check

Secure phonic knowledge is the foundation to becoming a successful reader.

In 2023, 75% of our 40 Year 1 pupils passed the phonics screening check. This year the percentage of pupils passing the phonics screening check increased from 68% in 2022 demonstrating an improving trend.

Year Two – Phonics Screening Check

In 2023, at the end of Year 2, pupils who did not pass the Phonics Screening Check in Year 1 had to re-sit the check. By the end of Year 2, 92% of the children passed which is higher than the national figure of 88%.

Key Stage 1 Statutory Attainment Tests (SATs)

At the end of each key stage, children are judged to be working either at, above or towards the expected standard in reading, writing and maths. In 2022 our figures were above national in reading, writing and maths. Of the 39 pupils in Year Two:

  • 74% achieved the expected standard in reading compared to 67% nationally
  • 67% achieved the expected standard in writing compared to 58% nationally
  • 74% achieved the expected standard in maths compared to 68% nationally

In 2023, assessments showed that 69% of children were working at the expected standard in reading and maths and 67% were at the expected standard in writing.

Key Stage Two Statutory Assessments Tests (SATs)

In 2022, of the 32 pupils in Year 6:

  • 72% achieved the expected standard in reading compared to 75% nationally
  • 72% achieved the expected standard in writing compared to 70% nationally
  • 81% achieved the expected standard in spelling, punctuation & grammar compared to 72% nationally
  • 81% achieved the expected standard in maths compared to 71% nationally

In 2023, of the 40 pupils in Year 6:

  • 65% achieved the expected standard in reading compared to 73% nationally
  • 52% achieved the expected standard in writing compared to 72% nationally
  • 60% achieved the expected standard in spelling, punctuation & grammar compared to 72% nationally
  • 55% achieved the expected standard in maths compared to 73% nationally
